For parents
Parent Information
Everything you need for the season in one place — who can play, what it costs and when payments are due, which forms to turn in, and what to expect from practices, games and the league.
Eligibility
This is a privately funded club; the team is not affiliated, run, or funded by any of the school districts. Private or public-school kids living in these 3 school districts may play on the team if selected. Tryouts will be announced and posted on different Facebook pages and on our website. Private school students may need to get a waiver or cut-slip from their Athletic Director to play with our team.

Player Registration
All age levels must register with USA Hockey before stepping on the ice with this team for any practice or game. No exceptions.
Middle School
The MS team is 12U for players in 6th and 7th grade. It is a non-NYS tournament division. The following exceptions apply:
- 5th graders with December birthdays are eligible to play MS
- 7th graders with December birthdays move to JV if they play travel
- 8th graders who are non-travel players may be retained at the MS level
Junior Varsity
The JV team, USA Hockey division 18U, is for players in 8th through 10th grade. It is also a non-NYS tournament division. The following exceptions apply:
- Goaltenders in 11th grade may play JV
- 7th graders with December birthdays must play JV
- Girls can continue to play JV through 12th grade
Varsity
Varsity is for players in 9th through 12th grade, and spots will be determined by the coaching staff. Varsity is highly competitive.
League and Required Forms
Parents and players must complete and turn in to the GM the following. Middle School and JV are due the third Monday in September; Varsity is due the second Monday in October.
- Four mandated league forms: Parent Code of Conduct, Player Code of Conduct, Waiver of Liability, and USA Hockey Consent to Treat
- Copy of birth certificate
- Copy of USA Hockey registration — due before skating with us
- Copy of a school transcript listing name, school and grade, used as proof to the league of the player's age and grade
Games & Practices
All practices and 16 games will be communicated via the TeamSnap application. The JV and MS game schedule is published around mid-September. The Varsity schedule comes out around early October.
- Parents and players are expected to check off their availability in TeamSnap for every practice and game. If not attending, please add a reason note — family event, travel game conflict, and so on.
- MS practices will be very limited and will depend on available ice time that can be acquired. Ice is very limited on Long Island due to team expansion in every league.
- JV and Varsity practice every Monday, with exceptions, generally starting the second Monday in September at Cantiague Park Ice Rink at 9:00 PM.
- Cancellations due to weather will be posted through TeamSnap, usually around 4:00 PM the same day. Some MS games will be played outdoors.
- Arrive 20 minutes before practice and 45 minutes before a game.
- If players are late or sick, the player calls the coach, not the GM.
- Bring both sets of jerseys and socks to every game. Without them, the league will not allow the player in the game.

24 Hour Rule
Parents are not allowed to speak to any coach or GM after a game. Please wait 24 hours, which will allow enough time for cooler heads to prevail and for some reflection. If you want to speak to the coach or GM, reach out.
High school hockey is competitive play. Playing time is earned, especially at the varsity level. Practice hard, perform conditioning off the ice, go to public sessions and work on skating, support your teammates, and improve yourself at home and on other teams.
Parents are cautioned that playing time is not equal for everyone on the team, although the costs to play may be the same. Playing time is determined by the coaches based on skill and different game situations. Playing time is not negotiable or debatable, like school-sponsored teams. We are happy to provide parents' feedback on their players, which is the same feedback we provide the players. They should share this feedback honestly with their parents.
The club reserves the right to sit and suspend players if they don't follow instructions, rules, and so on. No refunds will be provided.
League Rules
The league follows the USA Hockey rulebook.
- Abuse of officials — game misconduct is an automatic 3-game suspension.
- Suspensions escalate with a 12-month lookback rule. A normal 1-game suspension may become 2 games within 12 months, 2 games may become 4, and so on.
- The league enforces mouthpieces and neck guards, harder than they do in travel hockey. Wear it. In the mouth, no fishhooks or chewed flat mouthpieces.
- Respect opposing players, coaches, opposing parents and officials. This is not the NHL — relax, it's only a game.
- Suspended players are not allowed to play or practice with the team. They are not covered under USA Hockey insurance.
Insurance & Injuries
Your personal insurance is used to cover all costs. You must have insurance to have your child play on this team or in this league. Hockey is a dangerous sport, and injuries are common. The league and our club do not bear any responsibility for medical bills.
Your secondary insurance is USA Hockey. However, there is a deductible, and you should check their website for more details.
Concussion protocol. If the league's trainer or a coach removes a player from a game or practice due to a possible concussion, the player must submit a physician's note along with the league's concussion form to the GM after an exam by a qualified physician. The player cannot play in another game or practice until medically cleared.
